POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Senior Director, Sponsored Programs and Government Grant Strategy will lead the Alzheimer's Association strategy to build and coordinate federal and state grant sources, build relationships with federal agencies, provide leadership on financial and compliance related activity, and serve as internal expert on the development of a government grant portfolio.   The Senior Director will provide leadership and strategic coordination to Chapters and home office on their grant portfolios of more than $25 million and 200 grants, and find opportunities to collaborate for enhancing our mission delivery.  The Senior Director will serve as an internal subject matter expert on administrative requirements, cost principles and single audit requirements to ensure the Association maintains a clean audit and low risk auditee.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as senior leader to advance key strategic priorities, including the organizational federal and state grant strategy that will increase research funding, enhance care and support, health system expansion, and public health engagement nationwide for all constituents. 
  • Work closely with the Chapters to create infrastructure and strategy to support and coordinate Chapter developed grant proposals that maximize our ability to delivery evidence-based care and support services, implement quality care and diagnosis, and increase risk reduction knowledge.  This may include a repository of grant applications, training for chapter based staff on grant writing tools and resources, or identification of regional and area opportunities for grant coordination. 
  • Build internal and external Principal Investigator cadre for utilization in grant response, delivery, research, and evaluations.  B
  • Build relationships with agencies, organizations, universities and associations to provide background and leadership on the Association’s programs and key objectives.  Become an expert in agency funding opportunities and coordinate response and ability to delivery.  
  • Provide organizational leadership on grant administration and agency rules and regulations relating to compliance issues, ensures that overall performance activities and related documentation and reporting are done in compliance with grant requirements, obtains knowledge of, and works with other staff offices, to assure that institution complies with federal auditing requirements and knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Provide leadership to the team focused on grant administration and financial oversight for pre- and post-award activities.
  • Lead the staff during the annual Single Audit and preparation of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards to ensure the Association maintains a clean single  audit and low risk auditee.
        

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Proven success in managing a grant strategy and sponsored program department.
  • Experience in compliance management and a broad understanding of regulations related to grants.
  • Proven success in building relationships with federal funding agencies, inclusive of CMS, ACL, HHS, or CDC.
  • Strong persuasive abilities to influence cooperation and compliance with work methodologies without direct reporting authority.
  • Proven ability to build internal relationships, develop strategic objectives and provide training and support to deliver in chapter environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through professional presentations to influence multiple stakeholders including government agencies, universities, and internal to the organization.  
  • Proven ability to effectively lead, coach, and develop staff 
  • Proven ability to be a part of a dynamic leadership team and partner with peers to accomplish large scale projects


MINIUMUM REQUIREMENTS – (i.e., education, years of experience, etc.)

  • Bachelor's Degree in non-profit management, business, public health, or related subject required; Master's preferred
  • 10 years experience in government grant, sponsored program strategy and management
  • 5-7 years leadership/management experience managing a professional staff team 
  • Demonstrated expertise in federal and state grant sources, reporting requirements, and managing funding partnerships
