Work Hours: Full-time/Part-time (based on a 37.5 hour work week)

The Specialist, Public Policy is responsible for providing support to the Vice President of Health Policy. This includes: (1) conducting research; (2) drafting and designing fact sheets and other written materials; (3) writing internal issue briefs, memos, and summaries; (4) staffing and/or serving on work groups and task forces, as appropriate (5) organizing logistics for meetings and trainings; and (6) performing a limited amount of administrative functions
The Specialist, Public Policy is responsible for:
- Conducting various research projects, as needed, on Alzheimer’s-related policy, particularly data and economic research and reviews of published literature;
- Developing extensive knowledge on data sources, including health surveys and questionnaires; and
- Analyzing and comparing data from multiple sources, including surveys, studies, and other sources.
Drafting written materials:
- Updating, writing, and designing Fact Sheets on policy issues and priorities; and
- Preparing various other materials to convey data and statistics, such as tables, charts, and heat maps.
Developing and maintaining records and resources:
- Regularly reviewing all public policy materials on the internal and external website to ensure all information is current and accurate;
- Maintaining inventory of public policy materials and working with external printers on such resources
- Developing and compiling other resources as needed, including memos, briefs, tool-kits and summaries on public policy, public health, and health systems issues.
Working with both public policy and programs staff:
- Developing relationships across divisions;
- Working on joint public policy-program division projects, both at the home office and field levels, and working with relevant staff in each division, as assigned;
- Organizing, staffing and/or serving on internal and external work groups and task forces; and
- Handling logistics for in-person and virtual meetings.
Assisting the Vice President, Health Policy on other matters, including:
- Working on global Alzheimer’s issues in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Disease International and the World Dementia Council;
- Providing any necessary support to the Association’s BOLD Public Health Center of Excellence (PHCOE) on Dementia Risk Reduction;
- Providing any necessary assistance to the Vice President of Health Policy in his role working at the intersection of programs and public policy; and
- Performing a limited amount of administrative functions, such as data entry, printing, scheduling, and travel arrangements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 1-3 years experience in public policy preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent writing skills
- Fast learner and ability to work independently
- Creative thinker with an ability to anticipate needs
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and InDesign
- Familiarity with Maptitude and SAS/STATA a plus
- Ability to organize and manage meeting and project logistics
