Senior Director, Data Governance
Job Description
The Senior Director of Governance, reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, will lead Data Governance initiatives and drive engagement across ALZ. This role will strategically prioritize governance activities based on business needs and making key decisions on cross-domain data requirements. The Senior Director will work closely with business units and the technology team to identify and support Data Owners, ensuring they are empowered to manage data according to best practices. Additionally, they will collaborate with the Operations team members to establish and expand IT governance frameworks.
Responsibilities
Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Strategy Development: Define the overall vision, goals, and approach for data governance within the organization. Establish data quality standards, metrics, and KPIs to monitor and measure data quality and compliance
- Prioritization: Identify and set the most critical data governance issues and initiatives, ensuring they align with business objectives.
- Execution Oversight: Monitor the implementation of data governance activities to ensure they meet strategic goals and adjusting the plan as needed. Regularly report progress, trends, and issues to senior management and key stakeholders.
- Accountability: Ensure the successful execution of data governance efforts by fostering engagement and alignment among all relevant stakeholders. Guarantee adherence to regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and industry standards related to data governance and privacy, taking ownership of the outcomes. - Decision-Making: Collaborate with business owners and the technology team to make key decisions on data governance matters, including the approval of significant changes to data policies, processes, and tools.
- Socialize standards and adoption of data governance processes /framework throughout ALZ
- Develop and implement data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure data quality, integrity, and security across the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data governance roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities.
- Conduct data quality assessments, audits, and remediation efforts to identify and address data quality issues.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in data management, information technology computer science, business, or a related field required; MBA or Masters in data science highly preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in data governance, data analytics, statistical analysis, reporting, program and data quality management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven track record of developing data governance strategies, including establishing data quality standards, metrics, and KPIs.
- Proven track record implementing reporting solutions, and delivering actionable insights.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Python, R, Tableau).
- Experience in designing analytics for a wide range of audiences, inclusive of data sources from various sources.
- Experience in designing, developing, and evaluating large-scale multi-level initiatives.
- Experience in merging datasets derived from internal and external sources for strategic insights.
- Excellent organization, written, and visual presentation skills.
- Expert knowledge of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
- Strategic mindset with the ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and drive business outcomes.
- Proficiency with data governance tools and platforms (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation, Talend).
- Strong understanding of data management principles, including data architecture, data modeling, data integration, and data quality management.
- Experience with data privacy practices, including the implementation of data protection measures and ensuring compliance with privacy laws.
Title: Senior Director, Data Governance
Position Location: Chicago, IL (Preferred) or remote with travel as needed
Full time based on 37.5 hours per week minimum
Position Grade: 512 Exempt - Estimated Annual Salary Range ($140,000-$175,000)
