Under the direction of the Senior Director, Finance and Tax, the Senior Accountant will assist with the day-to-day accounting functions of the Alzheimer's Association. A major emphasis of this position is to maintain accounting & tax records and systems in compliance with Home Office Policy and Procedures.

 


This full-time position is located at our Chicago downtown office.

Essential Job Functions

 
     
  • Assist with charitable gift annuity annual filings
  •  
  • Assist in the preparation of required schedules and documentation for annual audit and assist with the preparation and compilation of data necessary to complete Form 990
  •  
  • Assist with sales and use tax returns and state registrations
  •  
  • Create and enter complex Journal Entries, prepare required back-up and submit for approval
  •  
  • Assist with reconciliation of complex investments on a monthly basis
  •  
  • Maintain and reconcile all financial records for the Association’s gift annuity program
  •  
  • Monitor/review revenue batches on a daily basis
  •  
  • Upload daily revenue files into MAS 500 accounting system
  •  
  • Assist in the preparation of required schedules and documentation for annual audit and assist with the preparation and compilation of data necessary to complete Form 990
  •  
  • Assist with branch office finance related questions
  •  
  • Maintain accuracy and control of general journal entry filings, binders and financial upload documents
  •  
  • Other accounting tasks and reporting as assigned

    Minimum Requirements
  •  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  •  
  • Minimum five years working in an accounting environment, non-profit experience preferred
  •  
  • Demonstrated strength in revenue recognition and general ledger
  •  
  • Experience with Sage 500 or other automated accounting and financial reporting systems strongly preferred
  •  
  • Experience with tracking restricted gifts from donors highly preferred
  •  
  • Detail oriented, accurate and efficient, with strong organizational skills
  •  
  • Self-starter, able to work autonomously and problem solve effectively
  •  
  • Strong communication skills and excellent customer service skills
  •  
  • Ability to work well with others and keep supervisor informed
  •  
  • Willing to work additional hours as needed on occasion and organize tasks and workflow to meet deadlines
  •  
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion
  •  
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency
  •  
  • Preferred CPA and current not-for-profit public accounting audit and/or tax experience
  •
