Job Description

The Security Analyst will assist in the design and implementation of IT security systems to protect the organization's computer networks from cyber-attacks. They will also help develop organization wide best practices for IT security. They will monitor computer networks for vulnerabilities, security issues, install security software and document all security issues or breaches identified.


Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with Infrastructure team to fix detected vulnerabilities to maintain a high-security standard
  • Receive and analyze network alerts from various sources within the enterprise and determine possible causes of such alerts.
  • Document and escalate incidents (including event's history, status, and potential impact for further action) that may cause ongoing and immediate impact to the environment
  • Validate intrusion detection system (IDS) alerts against network traffic using packet analysis tool
  • Assist in the construction of signatures which can be implemented on cyber defense network tools in response to new or observed threats within the network environment or enclave.
  • Provides cybersecurity recommendations to IT management based on significant threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct research, analysis, and correlation across a wide variety of all source data sets (indications and warnings).
  • Monitor external data sources (e.g., cyber defense vendor sites, Computer Emergency Response Teams, Security Focus) to maintain currency of cyber defense threat condition and determine which security issues may have an impact on the enterprise.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with industry laws and regulations mandating information security and information risk management requirements (HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, GLB).


  • Bachelor's OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of experience in engineering/administering security solutions.
  • Experience working in process driven structured environments, process optimization activities, etc
  • Understanding of security architecture development and implementation of infrastructure/network and multi-platform environments. Requires knowledge of security principles, issues, techniques and implications across all existing computer platforms.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience working in process driven structured environments, process optimization activities, etc
  • Written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to effectively present technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Experience with VMWare environments, Linux and Windows systems, and authentication infrastructures (AD/LDAP)
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routers, firewalls, switches, and load balancers
  • Experience working with and engineering cloud-based services and solutions
  • Knowledge and experience with network operations center, ticketing systems and or similar service management tools preferred
  • Proficient in Office Productivity Software and Diagraming tools
  • Interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • A proven technology innovator and a hands-on problem solver
  • Ability to multitask and handle numerous assignments simultaneously

Job Title: Security Analyst (Home Office)

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Work Hours: Full-time (based on a 37.5 hour work week)

Compensation: Grade Level 8

Reports To: Director, Cybersecurity
