GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

The Alzheimer's Association is the world's leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. The Greater Maryland Chapter Western Maryland Program Manager works in the Frederick office and serves Western Maryland (primarily Carroll, Frederick, Washington Counties). 

 

 

The Program Manager is responsible for building the reach and impact of the Chapter by managing all aspects of the Alzheimer’s Association’s programs and community engagement efforts including support groups, community education, and partnership development. This position will serve in both strategic and implementation roles with a focus on increasing awareness and utilization of available services through partnership cultivation, health systems engagement, volunteer management. This position reports to the Program Director.

 

  

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

Constituent Services

 
     
  • Supervision and coordination of the Alzheimer’s Association’s programs in the Western portion of the state including support groups, care consultations, early stage programs, and Helpline follow-up
  •  
 

Community Education

 
     
  • Recruit, train and manage Alzheimer’s Association community volunteers, ensuring high quality education, support groups, and early stage programs and well-trained and highly engaged volunteers throughout the Chapter’s Western Maryland region 
  •  
  • Delivery, or coordination of the delivery by Alzheimer’s Association community volunteers, of education programming on Alzheimer’s disease throughout the Western Maryland area to family caregivers, persons with disease, professional providers, and community stakeholders
  •  
  • Coordinate Chapter participation in high profile community events, such as conferences, health fairs and expos
  •  
 

Community Engagement

 
     
  • Identify, engage, and partner with community organizations, faith-based organizations, governmental entities, healthcare organizations, and businesses to expand the reach and impact of the Alzheimer’s Association
  •  
  • Organize Faith Leader Purple Weekend activities to expand awareness of Alzheimer’s and engage new partners
  •  
  • Lead Western Maryland initiatives to improve Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders diagnosis, disclosure, and care, through a collaborative approach to Health Systems that promotes the implementation of effective clinical practices
  •  
  • Recruit, Train, manage, and lead Western Maryland advocacy volunteers to achieve federal and state-level Association public policy objectives
  •  
  • Assist with logistics and communications for volunteers to participate with the Chapter in State Advocacy Days and national AIM-Alzheimer’s Public Policy Forum
  •  
  • Support the Diversity & Inclusion initiatives in order maximize exposure in underserved populations including African-American, Hispanic, and LGBT communities, and to increase their access to and participation in Chapter programs
  •  
 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 
     
  • Promote TrialMatch Program to ensure a pipeline of people interested in participating in clinical trials
  •  
  • Coordinate with development staff to promote special events at programs
  •  
  • Participate in, and assist with ensuring the success of Walk to End Alzheimer’s, The Longest Day, and other Alzheimer’s Association special events.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 
     
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in Social Work or a related field highly desirable
  •  
  • Minimum of five years demonstrated experience working with caregivers and persons with dementia, aging services or comparable human services 
  •  
  • Background in gerontology or education with knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and dementia related disorders
  •  
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources
  •  
  • Valid driver’s license, car and proof of insurance are necessary to meet travel requirements throughout the assigned territory
  •  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF, and Google Applications, familiarity with Personify or similar constituent relationship management software, or ability to learn 
  •  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  •  
  • Public speaking and/or training proficiency
  •  
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable
  •
