Job Description

Nevada continues to see significant growth in the number of people who are living with Alzheimer’s Disease or Related Dementia (ADRD), with an estimated 55,000 currently diagnosed with the disease. In addition, thousands more are either unwilling to disclose concerns around memory loss to a physician, or unable to access a healthcare provider to discuss them. Through education and understanding, not only will it be possible to provide Nevadans with the tools they need to discuss a potential diagnosis, but it might also be possible to delay the onset of cognitive decline through the promotion of brain health and healthy living interventions.

 

The purpose of this role is to lead the implementation of strategies identified in the Alzheimer’s Association sub award to the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) BOLD action plan and to represent the Alzheimer’s Association by collaborating with statewide partners to advance Nevada’s dementia infrastructure through a public health approach to brain health and health equity. The Manager is responsible for delivering brain health education programs, leading activities to increase brain health awareness, ensuring the successful completion and timely reporting related to the sub award, and implementation of priority activities identified under the Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI) Road Map.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementation of the Alzheimer’s Association subaward for the Nevada BOLD Strategies
  • Serve as primary BOLD liaison between the Alzheimer’s Association, DPBH and coalition partners.
  • Manage the Implementation of public health strategies to increase brain health awareness, encourage early detection and diagnosis, support family caregivers and educate healthcare providers.
  • Engage the community and educate the public about ADRD topics including primary, secondary, and tertiary preventions, per the HBI Roadmap, to include Caregiving support and dementia training.
  • In consultation with DPBH, identify priority populations, such as communities with a high burden or medically underserved areas.
  • Leverage and expand community and volunteer partnerships to meet the aims and outcomes of the BOLD workplan and evaluation.
  • Complete all necessary reporting and evaluation requirements as defined in the subaward.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Three years of experience in program management/delivery and evaluation
  • Awareness/understanding of dementia as a public health issue and the role of early intervention in delaying cognitive decline.
  • Familiarity with the diverse communities that make up the State of Nevada

Ability and willingness to travel up to 60% within the assigned territory by car or air.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Proven success in building and maintaining collaborative relationships and meeting strategic goals with partners and volunteers.
  • Able to identify and cultivate relationships with community partners, organizations, volunteers, and diverse populations to create sense of urgency related to dementia awareness as a major health issue and motivate all to action.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others, hold others accountable and reach mutually agreeable outcomes.
  • Experience with a public health approach focused on health promotion and early detection.
  • Experience building rapport/trust, assessing needs, and articulating a value proposition.
  • Ability to represent the Association effectively to community partners, community leaders and healthcare partners.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills, comfortable speaking in public
  • General knowledge of public and community health, community-based organizations, and systems
  • familiarity working on grant funded projects.

 

* Funding for this position is made available through CDC’s BOLD Public Health Programs to Address Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (CDC-RFA-DP23-0010) initiative. Grant-funded positions are time-limited and contingent upon sufficient funding. While the anticipated project period is 5 years, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will continue to award funding annually based on the availability of funds.
