Job Description

The Program Manager is responsible for developing, managing and implementing a volunteer-led program strategy for 15 east central Illinois counties served by the Alzheimer’s Association, Illinois Chapter. The primary goal of this position is to grow our volunteer base to significantly expand the reach of Alzheimer's Association programs and services. Measurable outcomes include significant growth in the recruitment, training and supervision of local program volunteers; an increase in the number of constituents served through volunteer-led community education programs and support groups; and the expansion of community-based education and support programs into underserved communities. 40 - 50% of time will be spent traveling in the 15-county Champaign service area, to assist with volunteer recruitment and engagement.

The primary work location is within the Champaign or Bloomington area; Service provided to Livingston, McLean, Ford, De Witt, Macon, Piatt, Champaign, Vermillion, Edgar, Douglas, Coles, Moultrie, Shelby, Cumberland and Clark counties.

Responsibilities

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maximizes innovative solutions, identifies and leverages best practices, conducts ongoing community assessment and continuous improvement, and manages issue resolutions to ensure success and excellent customer experience of the Association’s programs and services.
    • Undertakes a public health approach to Care & Support activities in order to expand reach and focuses on health promotion, disease prevention, and early detection.
    • Implements the established program reach strategy and Association’s common program delivery across a significant geography 
    • Leading and conducting Community Forums to develop an informed and community-focused plan for service delivery
  • Ensures an adequate number of active volunteers are recruited to meet program needs through a comprehensive recruitment plan that leverages technology, tools and staff across all functions
    • Provides technical assistance, mentorship and support to Program Volunteers ensuring volunteer onboarding and accountability by regularly monitoring volunteer impact and taking action to improve volunteer performance
    • Drives ongoing retention and volunteer relationship management, including adoption of new tools and technology 
  • Develops and leverages community partner relationships within and across constituencies, identifying opportunities to secure community partner action plans for expansion of Association programs and services
    • Manages local community outreach plans and leads community assessment process to expand program reach and program partners 
    • Delivers on established program reach strategy by identifying, developing and managing a prioritized portfolio of community partners. Serves as the relationship coordinator for key, high-impact portfolio accounts. 
    • Collaborates with community networks, community organizations, service providers, nonprofits and institutions serving underrepresented communities to address health disparities and barriers to Care & Support 
  • Implements grant-funded projects (where applicable) to achieve Association objectives, in accordance with enterprise grant policies and protocols.
  • Knowledge of quality dementia care in long-term care communities and community-based organizations utilizing a relationship sales approach. Ability to lead efforts as needed to impact quality care.
  • Promote the Association’s Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and associated programs/products.
  • Represent the chapter as needed at community events and networking groups and refer consumers to 24/7 Helpline for 1:1 support and makes warm transfers as needed.
  • Ensures timely and accurate reporting including ensuring data is entered into applicable software and systems (Personify, PVC, etc.).
  • Model and foster behavior that contributes to a culture that values the staff/volunteer partnership and is consistent with the values, goals, and cultural beliefs of the Association.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Seven years of experience in program and/or team management
  • Experience in community health and community mobilization a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated success managing volunteers, including recruitment, training, engagement, supervision and evaluation.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships and increase volunteer-led services to communities that have typically had low rates of engagement with the chapter.
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse/underserved populations, volunteers, staff, and external contacts to build and maintain successful partnerships.
  • Solid communication skills in person, print, and electronically.
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, organize and/or analyze growth opportunities and make programmatic recommendations to chapter leadership.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects at once.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • High level of integrity, diplomacy and initiative
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% within the assigned territory by car.  Travel in this case, is considered time spent away from the office, in the community, to fulfill the job goals.  While most such travel is same day, occasional overnight travel or air travel may be required Must have valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance
  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends as required for committee meetings.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift and transport up to 25 lbs. of materials
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Suite products and social media; experience with, or ability to rapidly learn, Personify software.
