Position Summary:

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of agency programs through direct service and volunteer provided services.  A large focus of the position is to build a base of volunteers to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and provide services to the community.


Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify and develop relationships with community organizations to assist in volunteer recruitment and delivery of services.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to assist in outreach efforts.
  • Prepare and conduct community presentations to increase knowledge of dementia and Association programs and services.
  • Conduct individual client and group meetings.
  • Provide information, support, and referrals related to the identified needs of clients.
  • Participate on agency committees and agency work groups, community coalitions and advocacy groups.
  • Represent the Alzheimer’s Association at public forums, conferences, and media events; function as an advocate representing the Alzheimer’s Association in the community.


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Bachelor’s in Social Work, Gerontology, or related field preferred.
  • 1 -3 years of progressive, professional experience in community outreach
  • 1-3 years of progressive, professional experience in counseling and/or care management preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to work effectively with clients, caregivers, staff, volunteers and external contacts to build and maintain effective teams.
  • Strong time management skills to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Effective communication skills to engage in person, in writing, and electronically with a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Working knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job. 
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift, and transport up to 20lbs of materials. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the assigned territory.  Travel, in this case, is same day travel. 
  • Must possess valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance and good driving record.
