This position is responsible for the implementation of Walk to End Alzheimer’s® events to meet or exceed goals through volunteer recruitment and engagement as well as through corporate development. This position serves as the staff partner to volunteer committees for multiple Walk to End Alzheimer’s communities. Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the fastest-growing walk program in the country, ranking as the third-largest peer-to-peer fundraising event in the United States. Measurable outcomes for this position include: achieving designated financial and participant goals through team and individual fundraising, corporate solicitation, community partnerships, as well as increasing Walk-brand awareness and visibility in the community. Based in Martinsburg, West Virginia, this position requires frequent travel within the assigned territory.
This is a part-time position working a 25 hour workweek.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Participate in the development and implementation of the chapter’s comprehensive fund development and marketing plan, (includes development and adherence to comprehensive budgets, timelines, team recruitment and retention strategies, volunteer committee development, marketing/PR, and logistics.
- Work directly with Management Team and Marketing and Communications Coordinator to ensure effective communications and promotion.
- Develop community contacts to recruit high level volunteer leadership and volunteers on the Walk to End Alzheimer’s (WTEA) planning committee and garner community support.
- Identify, develop, and supervise Walk volunteer committees and sub-committees for recruitment, training and development on the National WTEA timeline and utilizing best practices, resulting in the attainment of income goal and team goals.
- Through volunteer networks, prospect, cultivate and steward WTEA teams, sponsors and walkers to achieve the Chapter’s development goals.
- Coach volunteer planning committee to organize outreach activities that promote the Alzheimer’s Association mission and services, including community presentations and corporate engagement opportunities.
- Maintain relationships with key corporate sponsors and high-level contacts year-round and insure involvement in all relevant chapter activities and recognition opportunities.
- Identify potential funders within the region including foundations, corporations, businesses, colleges, individuals and civic groups and work with Development Director on plans to contact, secure funds and nurture donors.
- Develop, cultivate, and leverage effective community partnerships in support of the Alzheimer's Association’s mission across territory.
- Assist in execution with overall plan for other events including but not limited to, The Longest Day, Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, and other Third-Party Events.
- Ensure timely and efficient data entry process and donation processing related to Walk or other events when applicable. (This includes managing any Walk websites in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator, and all related setup, reports, and information, when applicable.)
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Increase community awareness of Alzheimer's disease and the services provided by the Alzheimer's Association throughout the region
- Represent the Chapter at public events, workshops and media events as well as delivering community workshops as time allows throughout the year.
- Participate in Chapter public policy committee and execute strategic advocacy initiatives that align with the Chapter’s strategic plan.
- Oversee office administration including, but not limited to, processing deposits, supply management, scheduling, and volunteer recruitment and management.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Positively contribute to the morale of the staff.
- Minimum of an associate degree from an accredited college or university.
- 3-5 years demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate and coach volunteers in a fundraising environment preferred
- Demonstrated ability to form and develop corporate relationships and partnerships
- Demonstrated success in the development and promotion of fundraising events or similar programs
- Ability to sell the Chapter’s programs and events to a variety of audiences, including corporate management, individual participants and volunteers
- Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of Chapter-wide or multi-state events preferred

- Ability to provide excellent customer service by picking up incoming calls and responding to emails in a timely fashion. All staff is responsible for quickly answering calls and emails as needed.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Google and Google-based applications.
- Ability to be self-directed, independently motivated, multi-task and prioritize work.
- Sense of humor and flexibility.
- Ability to travel throughout Chapter territory and fly to regional and national meetings.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Must be able to lift or move 25 pounds.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must have valid Driver’s License
