Job Description

The Manager, Relationship Events will lead strategy, development and implementation of Chapter annual gala and its wrap around event(s) built to meet or exceed budgeted goals by identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual donors and corporations to ensure the success of the Chapter’s gala fundraising and revenue metrics.  Measurable outcomes for this position include: achieving designated financial and participant goals through fundraising, corporate and guest solicitation, community partnerships, as well as increasing Association brand awareness and visibility in the community. Based in San Diego, CA, this position is hybrid      (expected to be on site at least 2 days per week, with remote flexibility, at home and in community, up to 3 days per week) and requires local travel within the assigned territory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the annual strategic plan and budget necessary to successfully implement the chapter’s relationship events. The outcome from such development and management needs to be the generation of fundraising revenue from these events in an amount at least equal to the amount budgeted for in the chapter’s annual budget, which amount will increase from year to year.
  • Oversee, manage and implement the logistics of relationship events, especially the chapter’s annual gala and daily administration, including but not limited to: facilities, décor, catering, entertainment, supplies, attendee tracking and communications, etc. 
  • Identify, cultivate and steward donors, sponsors and honorees through relationship-based fundraising/selling model.
  • Create effective volunteer committee structure; identify, recruit and cultivate committee members.
  • Manage and oversee volunteers of varying capabilities and experience and any staff as assigned to ensure revenue, fundraising and event goals are achieved in timely manner.
  • Effectively lead committee to support revenue generation by way of sponsor/donor leads, auction items and in kind sponsorships.
  • Lead the relationship and constituent event sponsorship efforts and fundraising strategies; work in conjunction with staff and volunteers to identify prospects, create proposals, fulfill benefits and steward sponsors year-round.
  • Engage and cultivate constituents, table hosts and individual donors/supporters to successfully achieve fundraising goals.
  • Create and manage marketing timeline/materials production in collaboration with the marketing/communication team; ensure all marketing materials and web/social media presence are in keeping with Association brand and messaging. 
  • Provide effective management of corporate relationships to ensure full mission delivery - including but not limited to in- person presentations, activation events and other events as identified by corporate partner.
  • Manage vendors and any temporary staff position that supports relationship events including, but not limited to hotel, a/v, event software (GiveSmart), seasonal support staff and any other support staff responsible for event execution, gift processing, and other administrative duties
  • Work with chapter leadership, board members, committee members and other development staff to create long-term, beneficial relationships with those who attend and/or support relationship events.
  • Help to initiate and support chapter intermediate donor engagement strategies related to individual giving and gala event follow-up. 
  • Support other Association special events and donor relations activities as needed.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Preferred peer-to-peer fundraising experience or equivalent sales background
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in recruiting and mobilizing volunteers to achieve goals
  • Confident, goal-oriented, positive self-starter able to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Demonstrated ability to form and develop corporate relationships and partnerships
  • Ability to manage large numbers of volunteers at different levels of expertise with diplomacy
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives. Ability to work in a hybrid environment, including 2 days in the office (San Diego) and other days in community

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the assigned territory by car. Travel in this case is considered time spent away from the office, in the community, to fulfill the job goals.
  • While most such travel is same day, occasional overnight travel or air travel may be required.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for the job
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift and transport up to 25 lbs. of materials
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with Google and Microsoft Office products, and social media
