This position is responsible for the implementation of Walk to End Alzheimer’s® events to meet or exceed goals through volunteer recruitment and engagement as well as through corporate development. Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the fastest-growing walk program in the country, ranking as the third-largest peer-to-peer fundraising event in the United States. Measurable outcomes for this position include: achieving designated financial and participant goals through team and individual fundraising, corporate solicitation, and community partnerships, as well as increasing Walk-brand awareness and visibility in the community, while serving as a representative of the Alzheimer’s Association and being able to clearly articulate the Association’s mission, vision, programs and services. This position reports to the Director, Constituent Events and is based in Salisbury, MD this position requires frequent travel within the assigned territory.

Additionally, as part of income performance targets and revenue goals, this position will support the Greater Maryland Chapter’s overall Walk to End Alzheimer’s strategic plan and activities. This role will also manage other constituent events, accounts and/or volunteers in support of The Longest Day, as well as select third party fundraisers and development department initiatives, as assigned.

 


Essential DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 
     
  • Responsible for achieving designated revenue targets for Walk to End Alzheimer’s on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and Chapter wide, with direct accountability for goals set forth in the annual budget and strategic implementation plan.
  •  
  • Responsible for recruitment of high-level volunteer community leaders and for the training, coaching, and management thereof, resulting in the attainment of revenue and team goals.
  •  
  • Build relationships with key volunteers, participants, sponsors and community leaders, as well as existing and new corporate partners.
  •  
  • Renew and secure increased local and chapter wide corporate sponsorship and overall employee engagement opportunities, company participation and support.
  •  
  • Responsible for overall Walk to End Alzheimer’s volunteer committee development, team recruitment and retention strategies, as well as for effective and efficient budget, timeline, marketing/communications/PR, logistics and best practice implementation.
  •  
  • Through volunteer networks, prospect, cultivate and steward Walk to End Alzheimer’s teams, sponsors and walkers to achieve development goals.
  •  
  • Execute plan for maximizing team participation to achieve revenue goals by retaining and growing existing teams, by attracting new ones from all sectors of the community, and by providing fundraising guidance and support.
  •  
  • Maintain year-round relationships with key corporate sponsors and constituents to ensure involvement in all relevant chapter activities and recognition opportunities.
  •  
  • Work with the volunteer planning committee to organize outreach activities that promote the Alzheimer’s Association mission, including community presentations and corporate engagement opportunities.
  •  
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to ensure cross promotion and support of organizational goals and/or messages.
  •  
  • Utilize available resources to maximize event results and participate in meetings, webinars, conference calls and/or training offered by the Association.
  •  
  • Support and manage other volunteers, donors and events affiliated with The Longest Day, third party fundraisers, and/or other development/Chapter activities.
  •  
  • Manage websites and provide high touch customer service and support by responding to inquiries and engaging constituents via phone, email and/or in person, in a timely manner.   
  •  
  • Ensure Walk to End Alzheimer’s standards are being followed.
  •  
  • Compliant with Alzheimer’s Association policies and procedures.
  •  
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.
  •  
  • Actively participate in professional growth and self-improvement learning opportunities.

Minimum requirements

 
     
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  •  
  • Preferred peer-to-peer fundraising experience or equivalent sales background.
  •  
  • Proven, quantifiable fundraising and/or sales experience.
  •  
  • Confident, goal-oriented, positive self-starter able to work independently with limited supervision, as well as a strong team player who must be able to work collaboratively with supervisor, colleagues and other internal and external partners to successfully accomplish goals. 
  •  
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized multi-tasker with strong time management skills, who is metrics driven and results oriented, in order to meet established deadlines and desired outcomes, while tracking performance measures and providing regular progress updates. 
  •  
  • Demonstrated ability to form and develop individual and corporate relationships and partnerships.
    3-5 years of proven experience in recruiting and mobilizing volunteer committees with demonstrated ability to motivate and coach volunteers to meet designated fundraising goals. 
  •  
  • Ability to manage large numbers of volunteers at different levels of expertise with diplomacy.
  •  
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion.
  •  
  • Demonstrated skills in community organization, relationship building, talent identification and leadership development. 
  •  
  • Comfortable attending networking functions and engaging contacts and connections in the mission and activities of the Association.
  •  
  • Ability to represent the Association at various events, including public speaking and presentation opportunities. 
  •  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written.
  •  
  • Knowledge and use of digital and social media and emerging online channels. 
  •  
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% within the assigned territory by car. Travel in this case is considered time spent away from the office, in the community, to fulfill the job goals.
  •  
  • While most such travel is same day, occasional overnight travel or air travel may be required. Must have valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance.
  •  
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for the job.
  •  
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift and transport up to 25 lbs. of materials.
  •  
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products and social media; experience with, or ability to rapidly learn, Luminate/Convio software and Google
  •  
  • Suite including Mail, Calendar, Docs and Hangout.
