GENERAL SUMMARY 
The Manager of Community Support is responsible for the delivery of an effective caregiver support group program throughout western Washington.  The Manager works with the Volunteer Engagement Manager to recruit a cadre of well-qualified volunteer facilitators, and then manages the training and on-going support of the facilitators to ensure the delivery of quality groups for family caregivers.  This includes significant clinical support to both facilitators and caregivers, while increasing overall awareness of the programs and support services offered by the Alzheimer’s Association, adhering to the mission statement.  The Manager assists in all efforts to meet goals as defined in the Strategic Implementation Plan and Common Program Plan.  The Manager supervises the Community Support Programs Assistant.

This is a full-time position located in the Lynnwood, Washington office, and reports to the Director of Programs and Services. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Volunteer Facilitator Management
* Through a joint effort with the Volunteer Engagement Manager, recruit new volunteer facilitators through identified internal practices
* Screen applicants, adhering to National and Chapter-developed application process 
* Organize and manage volunteer orientation and initial facilitator training

* Manage day-to-day Caregiver Support Group Program operations
* Provide on-going support and feedback to facilitators, including ability to quickly respond to a consistent high volume of emails, voicemails, and mail correspondence 
* Manage support groups to ensure stability, quality, and consistency
* Conduct continuing education via annual facilitator meeting, various educational seminars, monthly news & information packets, quarterly conference calls, and at least four direct contacts with the facilitator yearly
* Assist in identifying and providing Chapter and community resources compatible with the group's needs
* Conduct group visits and evaluations
* Consult with and refer to clinical staff when appropriate
* Understand role as mandated reporter and take action as required
* Recruit and screen external presenters for group meetings as defined in policies and procedures
* Maintain accurate program databases and tracking systems.
* Coordinate outreach and marketing efforts with internal staff
* Adhere to National processes for data-gathering and evaluation

* Supervise the Program Assistant

* Develop and support aspects of Chapter events, news, and publication content
* Participate in community outreach and fund development activities, including but not limited to the following:
* Presentations, workshops, education conference, panel participation
* Health and vendor fair resource tables
* Special events and fund development activities including Walk to End Alzheimer’s
* Advocacy and public policy activities

* Clinical Support
* Respond to community and support members’ inquiries; provide supportive listening; assess safety and take appropriate action if warranted; utilize Helpline, care consultation and resource referrals

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

* Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field; Master’s preferred
* Competency in the fields of aging, dementia, clinical support and volunteer management 
* Two (2) years of professional experience working with families and caregivers of individuals who have Alzheimer’s or other dementias, or with people with chronic illness or disabilities
* Knowledge of community resources
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
* Knowledge of data bases and/or comfort in learning new software and technology
* Extensive experience in recruiting and working effectively with volunteers
* Ability to analyze information and make timely, appropriate decisions
* Ability to collaborate and work well as part of a team; flexible and  adaptable 
* Ability to work independently and succeed in dynamic and fluid environment
* Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
* Proven public speaking skills
* Excellent program management skills
* Excellent organizational, time management, problem solving and strategic thinking skills
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and occasional stressful times
* Ability to meet physical requirements which may include long hours of standing, walking, some lifting up to 25 lbs, and carrying materials and supplies  
* Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
* Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
* Ability to travel locally and regionally as needed to perform job duties
* Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance and ready access to dependable vehicle.
