General Summary:


The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. Our mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

This position drives volunteer delivery of and implements and evaluates programs and services for the general public, individuals with dementia, family members, caregivers and professionals in the Piedmont area of the Western Carolina Chapter. As a volunteer driven organization, all staff are expected to recruit, cultivate, support and manage volunteer relationships to advance the mission of the Alzheimer's Association.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the  development and coordinate the delivery of an annual work plan for  programs that meet the needs of families and providers in the service area
  • Recruit, train and  manage volunteers to assist with program deliver
  • Plan, supervise/deliver, monitor and evaluate all educational and training programs in Piedmont area including provider training, information sessions, and Health Fairs, to meet the strategic plan for the program department. This responsibility includes working with other Chapter staff regarding shared initiatives
  • Work with the Family Services Manager as relevant to coordinate the Piedmont support group program
  • Work with the Chapter Director of Program Services to coordinate and implement Physician Outreach in the Piedmont area
  • Record all information on program services and  statistics in the appropriate Chapter databases per Chapter practices
  • Provide leadership and support to ensure integration and coordination of programs and services within the Chapter and with other service providers
  • Cultivate on-going relationships with other  Alzheimer’s Association Chapters and aging organizations/agencies at the  local, state, regional, and national levels
  • Maintain an up-to-date professional knowledge and  expertise on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementing illnesses, aging  issues and National/Chapter issues
  • Ensure compliance with Chapter fiscal and program requirements, including preparing any necessary reports for funding sources, the Chapter or the National Alzheimer’s Association
  • Represent the Alzheimer’s Association at public forums, conferences, workshops and media events and function as an advocate representing the Alzheimer’s community, as needed
  • Develop linkages and partnerships with other community agencies, organizations and educational institutions as relevant


  • Willingness to follow directives and implement programs based on the National Association and the Chapter’s mission, goals, and annual operating plans
  • Demonstrated success managing volunteer-led programs, with experience in recruitment, training, engagement, supervision and evaluation of volunteers
  • Ability to work independently on projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to organize, motivate, and work effectively with people from a variety of socio-economic levels, service provider organizations and the general public
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking skills
  • A self-starter, and a cooperative team member who works effectively with other staff
  • Mature, flexible and adaptable
  • Familiarity with service delivery systems pertaining to aging issues in each county in the Area service area
  • Ability to travel by automobile and operate a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and appropriate insurance coverage
  • Ability to transport materials to offsite locations
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds

Education And Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Volunteer management experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Windows Office products, Google Suite and familiarity with databases, preferred
