Job Description

Position Summary:

The Donor Engagement Manager joins and exclusive team of leaders to plan and execute all aspects of two main relationship events through the work of volunteer committees in partnership with the local Michigan team.  Utilizing proven networking and relationship building skills, you will cultivate individual giving opportunities through these events, manage intermediate relationships and work to identify possible major donors for further cultivation by the major gifts team.  Additionally, you will provide support to additional events across the State as needed.


Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing all components of the annual gala (Chocolate Jubilee) and Spring Soiree including but not limited to:   solicitation of in-kind donations, coordination of exhibitors, coordinating printing and the program book, vendor selection and management (food, decorations, invites).  Providing senior support to additional events including Rockin for ALZ and the Rutledge Golf Outing and other events as needed
  • Managing volunteer committees for both the Chocolate Jubilee Gala and the Spring Soiree - key relationship events supporting the Michigan Chapter.  Recruiting new volunteers, managing committee roles, and leading the committee towards successful event execution
  • Identifying and cultivating donor prospects for intermediate gifts throughout the State of Michigan collaborating with event committees and senior staff and as identified through all relationship events
  • Working in association-identified software for special events including setting up event sites, entering gifts, and editing donor profiles and solicitations
  • Leading communications regarding ongoing progress and outcomes to intermediate donors with restricted donations to specific programs or activities.
  • Recruiting, coordinating, assigning, and managing event day volunteers for special events as needed.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and work experience
  • 3 - 5 years of proven experience recruiting, mobilizing, and engaging volunteers and donors at the intermediate level


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to plan and manage all aspects of large relationship events utilizing a volunteer committee.
  • Good understanding of the local Michigan philanthropic culture and giving events including key donors and networks that can support success in relationship events.
  • A successful track record cultivating and stewarding individual giving through relationship events.
  • Confident, goal-oriented, positive self-starter, able to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and nurture relationships and partnerships
  • Ability to manage volunteers at different levels of expertise with diplomacy
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion, coupled with the ability to work in a highly matrixed organization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication and follow through
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 40% within the assigned territory by car.  Travel in this case, is considered time spent away from the office, in the community, to fulfill the job goals.  While most such travel is same day, occasional overnight travel or air travel may be required Must have valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance
  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends as required for committee meetings and events
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift and transport up to 25 lbs. of materials
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products and social media; experience with, or ability to rapidly learn Luminate/Convio software
