Job Title: Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Location: San Jose, California 

Work Hours: Full-time (based on a 37.5 hour work week)

Grade: 410

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary:

The purpose of this role is to increase the Association’s capacity to advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. This position reports to the Executive Director with active collaboration with senior leadership. The Director of DEI is responsible for leading and mentoring the adoption of the Association’s DEI priorities across all pillars, building collaborative and strategic organizational partnerships, and engaging diverse community leaders and volunteers.  


Responsibilities

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Align and mobilize the Senior Leadership Team, staff, Board, volunteers and DEI Committee around the National DEI Strategic Framework on a regional and Chapter level 
  • Partner across the pillars to resource, implement and evaluate the Chapter-level DEI strategies
  • Represent the Alzheimer’s Association externally in media and community workgroups to inform and advance our work in diversity, equity and inclusion. 
  • Lead a team of DEI staff to engage underrepresented communities across the full mission aligned with the DEI pillar of the strategic plan.
  • Provide leadership on the regional DEI Council to assess and implement organizational change in advancing diversity of thought towards a more inclusive chapter/region.
  • Cultivate existing and new community partners to engage in Alzheimer’s Association strategic priorities. 
  • Analyze service data to identify gaps in mission delivery within diverse communities
  • Provide oversight of grant funded key initiatives that reach underserved populations 
  • Manage the department budget, goals and objectives.


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor degree in public health or related field. (Masters preferred)
  • Five (5) years of senior leadership experience, including three (3) years of leadership experience in the area of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Demonstrated experience working with, and building partnerships with, diverse individuals, organizations and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce and provide leadership in organizational change
  • Demonstrated experience building rapport/trust, assessing needs and articulating a value proposition.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others to reach mutually agreeable outcomes
  • Excellent presentation and training skills including the ability to engage audiences with credibility. 
  • Superior self-management skills, as independent initiative and ability to collaborate are essential
  • Ability to build effective relationship networks (inside and outside the Association), including supporting others to work towards common objectives
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing the English language
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and computer skills
  • Self-starter, willing to take the initiative
  • Experience working with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings
  • Ability to travel across chapter territory and fly to national meetings 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record
