The Diversity and Inclusion Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and managing chapter efforts to increase reach to and engagement of diverse audiences in Alzheimer’s Association programs and signature fundraising events. The position goal is to significantly expand the awareness and reach of the Alzheimer’s Association. Measurable outcomes are increased consumer education and referrals to Chapter services, expansion of community-based support programs and sustainable partnerships with emphasis on reaching minority, high risk and under-represented populations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Community Partnership Development and Engagement (60%)  

 
     
  • Develop new, sustainable community partnerships and volunteer supporters that increase utilization of care and support services offered by the Alzheimer’s Association.  
  •  
       
    • Identify, build and maintain community organizational partners to reach new and diverse populations. 
    •  
    • Build and/or maintain partnership with faith communities in the 65 county region to increase reach to diverse populations. 
    •  
    • Identify and prioritize community workgroups, coalitions and committees that strategically accelerate Alzheimer’s Association Diversity and Inclusion efforts.  
    •  
     
  • Identify and assist Program Services staff with meeting the needs of diverse and underserved communities and populations as related to information and referral, care consultations, educational programs and support groups.   
  •  
 

Strategic Program Planning and Implementation (35%)  

 
     
  • Develop a local 3- year plan to increase diversity and inclusion efforts in chapter programs and signature events.   
  •  
       
    • In collaboration with Director and Manager of Programs, develop community and/or regional program implementation plans.  
    •  
     
  • In collaboration with Chapter leadership, lead chapter staff and volunteers in implementing strategies to reach diversity and inclusion pillar goals.  
  •  
  • Increase volunteer participation in education requests, health fairs and other community events, with a priority on volunteers for events that reach diverse audiences.  
  •  
 

Other (5%)  

 
     
  • Comply with all data entry standards. 
  •  
  • Track data related to Diversity and Inclusion performance indicators. 
  •  
  • Cultivate and recruit supporters for chapter fundraising events. 
  •  
  • Attend fundraising events as assigned. 
  •  
  • Attend chapter meetings and special events as scheduled.  
  •  
 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

 
     
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in social service related field 
  •  
  • Experience: 5 years relationship management experience 
  •  
  • Demonstrated history of community program development, community engagement and inclusion work. 
  •  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Google; ability to learn service user software. 
  •  
  • Strong organizational skills 
  •  
  • Experience working with clerical staff and volunteers. 
  •  
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  •  
  • Requires ability to work evenings and weekends to meet community needs as needed. 
  •  
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds is required. 
  •  
  • Travel by car to attend meetings within chapter territory. Work may be stressful during periods of high volume or tight deadlines.
