Job Description

The Director, Scientific Conference Programming, will lead the planning and execution of the scientific programming of global scientific conferences, including the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC), AAIC Satellite Symposia, AAIC Neuroscience Next, and other meetings; working at the cutting-edge of global advances in Alzheimer’s and dementia science to accelerate research. In addition to working closely with internal partner divisions, the Director will also act as a key point of contact for external stakeholders, representing the Alzheimer’s Association in a positive, professional manner.


Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the planning, infrastructure and execution of scientific programming of the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC), including pre-conferences, main conference, workshops, and ancillary events.
  • Lead the planning, infrastructure and execution of scientific programming of regional (i.e. AAIC Satellite Symposia), scientific (e.g. tau, apoe, immunity) and career-stage (i.e. AAIC Neuroscience Next) focused-meetings
  • For all meetings, manage both the submitted scientific program (including the abstract submission processes for thousands of submissions annually) and the invited scientific program (Scientific Program Committee calls).
  • Develop, oversee and administer conference programming budgets.
  • Evaluate the global reach of registration and abstract submission, identifying areas for growth and implementing new initiatives.
  • Collaborate internally within the MedSci division to integrate scientific conferences with the full suite of Association scientific initiatives, including ISTAART, grant programs and journals.
  • Cultivate external partnerships to reach new audiences.


  • PhD in biological, medical or health sciences
  • 3-5 years scientific research experience in either an academic, industry or clinical setting, ideally in an Alzheimer’s and dementia-related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of the global landscape of Alzheimer’s and dementia research
  • Experience of conference programming, including in-person, hybrid and virtual events
  • Data analysis skills to evaluate global reach of scientific engagement.
  • Enthusiasm to identify opportunities to further engage with scientific audiences, and implement novel scientific programming
  • Professional communication skills to engage with a variety of scientific audiences, both in-person and in a virtual environment
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment. 
  • Collaborative mindset to identify areas of convergence with external organizations and develop collaborations.
  • Ability to travel throughout the US by plane and surface transportation, as well as travel internationally as needed. Must possess a valid passport.
