Position Summary:

The purpose of this role is to increase the Association’s capacity to advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to the Associations priority diverse communities; This position reports to the Executive Director with active collaboration with senior leadership. The Director of D&I is responsible for; monitoring and mentoring the adoption of the Association’s D& I priorities across all pillars, building collaborative and strategic organizational partnerships, and recruiting/ engaging diverse community leaders and volunteers.  

Responsibilities

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Capacity Building 

  • Align and mobilize the Senior Leadership Team, staff, Board, volunteers and D&I Committee around the National D&I Strategic Framework on a regional and Chapter level 
  • Partner across the pillars to resource, implement and evaluate the

      Chapter-level D&I Strategic Action Plan (SAP). 

  • Regularly host and facilitate a Regional D&I call to convene the region around the advancement of D&I, including success stories, challenges, and emerging best practices.
  • Provide support to Health Systems and Public Policy staff in development of priorities that support health equity and reflect the perspectives and priorities of diverse communities.
  • Represent the Alzheimer’s Association externally in media and on councils/workgroups to inform and advance our D&I strategy/activities and to increase reach, access, and participation in care and support amongst communities disproportionately impacted by the disease.
  • Participate in and contribute to the Board meetings and the Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

Community Partnership Development

  • Connect diverse constituents to the Alzheimer’s Association.
  • Grow mission-driven partnerships with organizations serving diverse communities including, but not limited to: businesses, chambers, community-based organizations, faith communities, academic institutions, and social service organizations.
  • Engage existing and new diverse community partners to understand 

emerging priorities and unmet needs, and (re)assess areas of intersection with

Alzheimer’s Association strategic priorities. 

Volunteer Engagement

  • Implement a Volunteer Recruitment strategy to help increase reach to diverse communities, while also managing volunteers dedicated to diversity outreach.
  • Identify Volunteer Community Leaders in diverse communities who can help increase reach.
  • Work with all Association pillars to identify diverse volunteers who will support the Association’s efforts.
  • Utilize the Volunteer Management System (VMS) to support volunteer growth and service delivery. 
  • Serve as a spokesperson, and engage diverse volunteers to represent the Association in radio and television interviews targeting priority communities.

Community Assessment/Outreach 

  • Analyze service data to identify gaps in mission delivery within diverse communities 
  • Build relationships and work collaboratively with local organizations in diverse communities to raise awareness and expand mission delivery.
  • Coordinate the development and execution of Community Forums that include diverse audiences.

Data Support 

  • Document work in a timely, consistent and thorough manner in databases as required (e.g. Personify, Moves Management) as required.
  • Align with and practice fidelity to standard internal workflow, processes and procedures.
  • Consistent, thorough and timely documentation

Qualifications  

  • Education: Bachelor degree in public health or related field. (Masters preferred)
  • Five (5) years of senior leadership experience, including three (3) years of leadership experience in the area of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English  
  • Superior self-management skills, as independent initiative and ability to collaborate are essential
  • Ability to build effective relationship networks (inside and outside the Association), including supporting others to work towards common objectives
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, reflecting an understanding of the appropriate use of communication technologies and an appreciation that each audience requires its own approach
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills that reflect an understanding of different learning modalities, group process, and cultural diversity
  • Deadline and detail oriented, adaptable and able to manage multiple projects and tasks
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • High volume of public contact both individual and group
  • An absolute commitment to confidentiality
  • Ability to travel throughout Chapter territory and fly to regional and national meetings
  • Ability to type on a keyboard
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Must be able to lift or move 25 pounds
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid Driver’s License and proof of valid insurance
