Job Description

The Community Program Manager w/ emphasis on DE&I is responsible for implementing the chapter’s volunteer-powered program delivery strategy, engaging with organizations to encourage community mobilization, developing, implementing and managing chapter efforts with particular focus to increase reach and engagement of diverse audiences. The Community Program Manager’s goal is to significantly expand the awareness and reach of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The successful candidate would increase consumer education and referrals to Chapter services, expand community-based support programs and sustain partnerships with emphasis on reaching minority, high risk and under-represented populations.

Responsibilities

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Increase reach of Alzheimer’s Association Common Programs with special emphasis on increasing participation among diverse communities that have typically had low rates of engagement with the chapter.
  • Clear understanding of how inclusion functions as part of DEI best practices and demonstrated analytical and data-driven approach to DEI programs and initiatives.
    • Build and expand the number of representatives in our Hispanic/Latino, LGBT, African American and other under-represented community members as Alzheimer’s Association Community Educators, Alzheimer’s Association Community Representatives, support group facilitators and other Community Volunteers.
    • Recruit, engage, train and manage relationships with community volunteers to expand the Alzheimer’s Association’s visibility and programmatic reach within the assigned area.
    • Conduct annual performance evaluations of community volunteers.
    • Represent the chapter as needed at community events and networking groups.
    • In collaboration with Chapter staff assist with Community Forums in order to develop an informed and community-focused plan for service delivery
  • Develop new, sustainable strategic community partnerships and volunteer supporters in an effort to increase the reach of the Association.
  • Build referral partnerships with social service agencies, service providers and congregations to identify prospective volunteers
  • Analyze service data to identify gaps in delivery and create opportunities for increased volunteer engagement
  • In collaboration with Chapter leadership, lead chapter staff and volunteers in implementing strategies to reach diversity and inclusion pillar goals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field (education and experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree)
  • 2 years’ experience in recruiting and managing volunteers
  • 2 years’ experience managing program implementation
  • 2-3 years’ experience in community outreach, community mobilization or organizational capacity building projects/initiatives
  • Demonstrated history of community education, strong public speaking skills and communications.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (again, the assumption is that the KSA listed are required, unless qualified with the statement preferred or strongly preferred. This should include things like driver’s license, ability to lift up to 25 lbs, etc.)

Preferred Skills:

  • A highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills - you make things happen!
  • Demonstrated success managing volunteer-led community education programs and support groups, with experience in recruitment, training, engagement, supervision and evaluation of volunteers.
  • Have a passion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work.
  • Demonstrated success working on a team to identify, create and launch strategic partnerships.
  • Demonstrated success working with diverse populations, volunteers, staff, and external contacts to build and maintain successful teams.
  • Articulate and direct in written, oral and electronic communication
  • Emotionally intelligent - you speak with candor and authenticity and you know your audience
  • Outgoing and able to quickly establish rapport which will result in strong relationships
  • Solutions-focused and highly adaptable
  • Accountable and prepared to be measured for results
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, organize and/or analyze growth opportunities and make programmatic recommendations to Chapter leadership.
  • Ability to coach and develop volunteer talent
  • Ability to make data driven decisions.
