Community Engagement Manager

Position Summary:

As a result of our strategic priorities, the Association acquired funding to expand the reach of our volunteer-powered programs with an emphasis on reaching rural communities and building a sustainable base of community partners and volunteers.

Reporting to the Chapter Executive, the Community Engagement Manager will implement our grant objectives to assess community needs, engage with organizations to mobilize communities, manage and engage volunteers and evaluate the program’s success.

This is a part-time (30 hours per week), fully benefited, grant-funded position that is expected to run through June 30, 2022 with the possibility of continued employment. This position is based in Cheyenne, Wyoming.


Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Guided by the Community Development Model, lead and conduct Community Forums in order to develop an informed and community-focused plan for service delivery.
  • Increase reach of Alzheimer's Association Common Programs with special emphasis on increasing participation among communities that have typically had low rates of engagement.
  • Build and expand the impact of Alzheimer's Association Community Educators, Alzheimer's Association Community Representatives, Support Group Facilitators and other Community Volunteers using the chapter's Volunteer Recruitment Plan.
  • Engage, train and manage relationships with community volunteers and conduct annual performance evaluations (Mission Conversations).
  • Assist in identifying and developing new, sustainable strategic community partnerships, key stakeholders and volunteer supporters in an effort to increase the reach of the Association.
  • Represent chapter as needed at community events and networking groups.
  • Ensure grant deliverables are met within assigned territory.

Team Participation 

All employees are expected to adopt the mission of the organization in their daily work and to professionally represent the Association outside of work. All staff are expected to work as a team to accomplish, if not exceed, organizational goals as detailed in the Strategic Plan. In addition, all staff are expected to fully engage in our culture of public policy and advocacy, fundraising, and diversity and inclusion. 

  • Assist where needed even if not in this position’s job description 
  • Participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Staff Team and "Give or Get" fundraising goals
  • Work at least one Walk on a weekend


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Gerontology, Nursing, Public Health, or volunteer management: preferred: Masters in Public Health or Social Work
  • 2 years of experience in managing volunteers; preferred: 4 years
  • 2 years of experience managing program implementation 
  • 1-2 years of experience in community outreach, community mobilization or organizational capacity building projects/initiatives
  • Demonstrated success managing volunteer-led community programs with experience in recruitment, training, engagement, supervision and evaluation of volunteers preferred.
  • Previous experience in community outreach, community mobilization or organizational capacity building projects/initiatives
  • Previous experience leading grant-funded projects preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% within the assigned territory by car. Travel in this case, is considered time spent away from the office, in the community, to fulfil the job goals.
  • While most such travel is same day, occasional overnight travel or air travel may be required. Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for the job
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products, Google suite and; experience with, or ability to rapidly learn the Personify CRM database and volunteer management system
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
