Job Description

 

The Community Engagement and Media Outreach Manager is responsible for recruiting volunteers at all levels, screening and making appropriate referrals to key staff leads for the Greater Sacramento Area, North Valley and Northern Nevada. The person in this role will also spend 2 days per week supporting public relations activities for the Northern California and Northern Nevada chapter, with primary responsibility in the Greater Sacramento Area, North Valley and Northern Nevada media markets. The Community Engagement and Media Outreach Manager also contributes to building relationships with local corporations.

This is a full-time position located in Sacramento, California and reports to the Director of Communications and Volunteer Engagement Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Volunteer Engagement
* Responsible for overall leadership in the Association's volunteer-led strategic initiatives in the Greater Sacramento, North Valley and Northern Nevada regions
* Establish and maintain liaisons with businesses, organizations, universities and other special interest groups from which volunteers are recruited
* Conduct outreach and deliver presentations on Association volunteer opportunities
* Market volunteer opportunities through online postings
* Responsible for recruiting and coordinating volunteers for the Sacramento Walk to End Alzheimer’s
* Work with key staff leads to ensure volunteers receive appropriate orientation, training and ongoing coaching and supervision and recognition
* Help staff identify opportunities for volunteer engagement
* Manage data to track volunteer activities
* Identify and recruit student interns, as needed

Public Relations
* Primary responsibility for media outreach in the Greater Sacramento Area, North Valley and Northern Nevada media markets; other media markets as assigned
* Identify key media outlets and reporters, and develop strong relationships on behalf of Association; monitor news in assigned markets for media outreach opportunities
* Stay informed about Association news, events, and communications initiatives
* Gather volunteer and other constituent stories from greater Sacramento and other assigned areas
* Pitch news and personal stories to target outlets and reporters
* Coordinate volunteers to write opinion pieces and letters to the editor
* Act as point of contact for greater Sacramento media
* Track communications metrics for Sacramento office

Corporate Engagement
* Develop new and deepen existing corporate relationships by building engagement opportunities, raising awareness of the Alzheimer's Association and increasing corporate giving through implementation and execution of cultivation and solicitation strategies, including cold-calling, cultivation calls and in-person meetings
* Recruit corporate volunteers, establish relationships with employee champions and increase engagement of corporate entities in the Walk to End Alzheimer's and The Longest Day
* Research and solicit corporate sponsors for Education Conferences and other special events as appropriate
* Assist with Community Health Charities, Combined Federal and other workplace giving campaigns
* Assist with fulfillment of requests for brief talks or resource tables at corporate giving meetings
* Cultivate and engage membership organizations

Knowledge, Skill, Experience & Education Requirements
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
* Minimum of two years of experience managing volunteer programs
* Understanding of the principles of volunteer engagement and management
* Experience working with the media highly desirable
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrable success in building long-term relationships with corporate partners required
* Successful track record of establishing strong interpersonal relationships with corporate partners, volunteers, community leaders, and media
* Experience engaging corporations in volunteering and fundraising
* Knowledge of the greater Sacramento community and media environment
* Solid computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite and databases
* Experience working in culturally and ethnically diverse communities
* Personal experience as a volunteer

* Ability to drive throughout the Chapter territory as necessary; valid drivers’ license and auto liability insurance
* Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings
* Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds
