Position Summary                          

The Alzheimer's Association, serving the San Diego and Imperial community, provides a variety of education, information and support services to persons living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, caregivers, health care professionals, and the community.  We are presently hiring a Community Engagement Manager, who will be primarily responsible for coordinating and conducting educational programs to support to individuals living with dementia, friends/family, and the general public, reaching communities of color, primarily the Asian and Pacific Islander (AAIP), and increasing our reach through expansion of our community partnerships.  The Community Engagement Manager will also utilize volunteers to increase program delivery and support services throughout the territory.  This includes the recruitment, training, support and management/supervision of volunteer community educators. This position is preferred to be bilingual English and Spanish.


Responsibilities  

  • Work as part of a cohesive and collaborative program team to deliver the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association as to deliver our common core programming classes.
  • Work with a focus on the Alzheimer’s Association strategic priority pillars
  • Plan, schedule, promote and deliver Association community education programs within a variety of venues including community centers, community- based agencies, healthcare settings, other settings as needed.
  • Develop new, sustainable strategic community partnerships and volunteer supporters in an effort to increase the reach of the Association
  • Build referral partnerships with social service agencies, service providers and congregations to identify prospective volunteers
  • Provide training, resources and supervision of volunteers and interns.
  • Coordinate an annual research event to increase awareness of local, national and global research efforts and supporting our locally funded researchers. 
  • Identify and meet the needs of diverse communities and populations, with a particular focus on diverse communities, including the Asian American Pacific Islander, Latino, African-American and the LGBT community.
  • Represent the chapter at appropriate and assigned meetings and events. 
  • Promote and support all office activities including the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and The Longest Day
  • Remain knowledgeable and current in information related to Alzheimer’s and related dementias as well as national, state, and local initiatives that affect the targeted population.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, master’s degree preferred in health care related field: social work, psychology, counseling, nursing, gerontology, public health or related.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in community outreach, conducting education programs, health care guiding, coaching, and supporting individuals and their families. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Remain knowledgeable and current in information related to Alzheimer’s and related dementias as well as national, state, and local initiatives that affect the targeted population.  
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people including persons with dementia, family caregivers, corporations, foundations, and volunteers.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Computer competency and familiarity with data base management and data entry required
  • Ability to multitask and handle changing priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Experience in volunteer management, supervision and support.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills when working with internal and external clients.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed, including overnight travel.
  • Familiarity with demographics and community resources desirable
  • California driver license, insurance, and reliable transportation
