Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Chicago Metro Director, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the Chicago Metro Walk Specialist plays a supportive role to achieve recruitment and revenue goals for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. The Chicago Metro Walk Specialist works closely with all Walk Managers to provide exceptional service internally with our staff and volunteers, and externally with our walkers, team captains and donors.

The Illinois Walk Specialist is expected to fulfill event related functions as needed. This position is based in Chicago and will support the following Walks: Chicago, Lake County, North Shore, Northwest Suburban, Naperville, Ottawa & Fox Valley.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Research, identify and recruit volunteers for year round Walk support and day of Walk needs
* Assist Senior Director with chapter-wide trainings for Walk Managers and volunteers
* Work with the Walk team to accomplish, if not exceed, Walk goals
* Work closely with Walk managers to support them with team recruitment, logistics, marketing, retention, and wrap around events as needed.
* Organize outreach activities that promote the Alzheimer’s Association mission, including community presentations and corporate engagement opportunities
* Represent Chapter at public events where there is recruitment and fundraising potential
* Support Walk managers with securing in-kind donations for Walk challenges, incentive prizes and Walk day needs
* Coordinate Walk contracts (i.e event companies, event security, etc.)
* Support the Walk Managers with Convio-based e-communications and reports as needed
* Takes notes and send minutes out to Walk team following Walk calls/meetings
* Coordinate with Walk managers for website updates and additions
* Provide weekly benchmark reports for all Walk to End Alzheimer’s in chapter area
* Must be able to work weekend hours during Walk to End Alzheimer’s season (September and October); and a limited amount throughout the year
* Responsible for other duties as assigned

Minimum requirements:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
* 1-2 years of proven experience in recruiting and mobilizing volunteers to achieve goals preferred
* 1-2 years of proven experience in event planning or event management
* Peer-to-peer fundraising experience or equivalent sales background preferred
* Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
* Ability to communicate in person, by phone and electronically with internal and external constituents
* Detail-oriented, efficient and ability to multitask
* Confident, goal-oriented, positive self-starter able to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with internal and external partners
* Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion
* Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written
* Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% within the assigned territory by car. Travel in this case, is considered time spent away from the office, in the community, to fulfill the job goals
* While most such travel is same day, occasional overnight travel or air travel may be required. Must have valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, good driving record and proof of automobile insurance
* Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for the job, including most weekends in September and October
* Ability to bend, stoop, lift and transport up to 50 lbs. of materials
* Strong computer skills are a must, proficient with Microsoft Office products and social media; experience with, or ability to rapidly learn, Luminate/Convio software
* Ability to approach a project with creative and original thinking
