POSITION TITLE:              Associate Director, Public Health Center of Excellence

REPORTS TO:                   Vice President, Health Policy

STATUS:                            Full Time Exempt

LOCATION:                       Chicago, IL

GRADE:                             8

The Associate Director of the Centers of Excellence oversees and manages the Association’s subgrant work on the BOLD Public Health Center of Excellence on Dementia Caregiving, including dissemination efforts and engagement with public health agencies. The successful applicant will also be responsible for assisting on the work of the Association’s Cooperative Agreement with the CDC on the BOLD Public Health Center of Excellence on Dementia Risk Reduction and any health policy projects related to Alzheimer’s and other dementias, as assigned.

This position reports to the Vice President, Health Policy with a dotted line relationship to the Director, Center of Excellence, and is based in Chicago, IL.
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee all work related to the Association’s subgrant on the Public Health Center of Excellence (PHCOE) on Dementia Caregiving, which shall include:
    • Coordinating and managing the Stakeholder Advisory Boards, including
      • Managing the nomination, application, review, and selection process; an
      • Coordinating and managing logistics for all meetings, including any in-person meetings;
    • Assisting in the identification of the needs of caregivers and of evidence-based caregiver interventions;
    • Working with the Association’s Minnesota/North Dakota Chapter with respect to pilot dissemination activities in Minnesota;
    • Overseeing the Association’s nationwide effort to disseminate the work of the PHCOE and the efforts to encourage use of the materials, tools, and best practices by state, local, and tribal public health agencies;
    • Working closely with the Principal Investigator of the PHCOE (at the University of Minnesota) on the activities of the PHCOE; and
    • Assisting, and undertaking any other activities assigned by, the Vice President of Health Policy and the Senior Director of Quality Care and Psychosocial Research with respect to the Association’s subgrantee role with the PHCOE.      
  • In conjunction with the Director of the Center of Excellence on Risk Reduction, the Director of the Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI), and other public health staff as determined by the Vice President of Health Policy, work with the State Affairs Department of the Public Policy Division to strategize, develop, and implement activities and tactics to increase public health agency action on dementia caregiving.     
  • Assist in the work of the Association’s Cooperative Agreement with the CDC on the BOLD Public Health Center of Excellence on Dementia Risk Reduction, as assigned by the Vice President of Health Policy and the Director of the Center of Excellence.   
  • Undertake other public health and/or health policy projects as assigned.
     

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:   

  • Understanding of public health
  • Experience in the policy aspects of public health, including advancing governmental action on public health issues       
  • Knowledge of general health policy         
  • Ability to organize and manage meeting and project logistics       
  • Knowledge of issues surrounding caregiving a plus


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, public policy, or similar
  • Minimum 3-6 years of progressive, professional public health and/or health policy experience, including a government or governmental affairs position on health issues
  • Previous similar work at a voluntary health organization preferred
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job
